Studies on ornamental fish diseases in Taiwan / 台灣地區觀賞魚疾病研究

碩士 / 國立屏東科技大學 / 獸醫學系所 / 105 / Taiwan has a tropical and subtropical climate, for breeding and maintaining ornamental fish. Moreover, Chinese culture has a long history of ornamental fish breeding and has innovated with recent advance in technology. Recently, the Government set conditions for ornamental fish import and export mainly on self-development, stocking, quarantine, and packaging in “Asia-Pacific operations” from aquarium center at Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Park. The objective of the present study is to analyze the most frequent or possible diseases outbreak in ornamental fish in Taiwan. Samples will be collected from aquatic farms, personal farmers, and traders. Different fish species such as Anabantoidei, Atheriniformes, Characiformes, Cyprinodontiformes, Cypriniformes, Labroidei, Percoidei, Myliobatiformes, Osteoglossiformes Pomacentridae, Siluriformes, Tetraodontiformes will be included in this study. From Aug. 2015 to Apr., 2017, total 237 cases were collected from 74 different species. There were 104 cases (34%) identified as bacterial diseases; 86 cases (29%) infected with parasites, 59 cases (20%) confirmed with viral infection and 52 cases (17%) related to water quality or other problems. The most frequently identified bacteria were Aeromonas sobria 26 cases (24%), Mycobacterium spp. 21 cases (20%) and Vibrio harveyi 11 cases (10%). Predominant parasite infections were Monogeneans 33 cases (38%), Ichthyophthirius multifiliis 13 cases (12%), Tetrahymena and Trichodinida spp. 10 cases (10%). Among viral infections, 21 cases (41%) showed positive result with KHV when using LAMP and only one KHV case (2%) could be detected by PCR; 40 positive cases of Iridovirus (GIV, TGIV, RSIV, ISKNV) were detected by PCR. According to the research, the most predominant diseases in ornamental fish was bacterial diseases (Aeromonas sobria in freshwater fish and Mycobacterium spp. in seawater fish). Another major problem in ornamental fish was parasite infections. Dactylogyrus appeared to be the most serious problem among the monogeneans ectoparasites. Taiwan still remain the epidemic area of KHV and base on the study data, most of KHV infection represented in latent phase. Although detection rate of Iridovirus was more than 50%, but its impact on ornamental fish still need to be further investigated.
