The Effects of Incorporating Concept Mapping into Game-based Learning on Learning Performance and Motivation : Case Study on Compound Game “ Mast Dream” / 概念構圖融入遊戲式教學對學習表現及動機之影響—以複合式遊戲桅杆之夢為例

碩士 / 國立臺南大學 / 數位學習科技學系數位學習科技碩士在職專班 / 105 / Recently, game-based learning has been used extensively in many subject areas. A number of strategies have been incorporated into the game-based learning. Without incorporating any educational theory or providing supportive tools, the effectiveness of educational computer games might be disappointing. How to convert the game experience into the learning achievement is the key topic of the game learning research.
The aim of this study was to examine the influence of the incorporating concept mapping into game-based learning on the learning performance of History course. Using compound game “ Mast Dream” as game-based learning aid. In this study, fifty-two fifth grade students from two normal classes in a elementary school in Tainan City participated. The experimental group, was provided with teaching method of concept mapping incorporate into game-based learning, while the control group, was provided with teaching method of Direct Instruction incorporate into game-based learning. The effects of incorporating concept mapping into game-based learning were evaluated through the history unit academic achievement test, ARCS learning motivation qustionnaires and player background experience qustionnaires as the
instrument, together with the analysis of Analysis of Covariance ,T-test and descriptive statistics. In terms of the qualitative data, collection of instructors’ observation notes, semi-structural interviews are included.
The experimental results showed that the proposed approach significantly improved their learning achievements in the concept mapping incorporate into game-based learning activity. However, no significant differences was found in retention effects between experimental and control, but experimental’ average score is higher than control’ average score.
