With faster pace of economic globalization, the rapid development of modern science and technology, especially the information technology (IT), has been applied to the logistics industry. The traditional model of physical distribution has been upgraded to modern logistics. This innovation is one of the primary means by which companies can reduce costs and improve their competitiveness, which includes the Third-Party Logistics (3PL) and Fourth-Party Logistics (4PL). Taiwan has accumulated a rich experience in the logistics industry after years of development, that include infrastructure construction, logistics technology application, business model innovation, and logistics personnel training. These have contributed greatly to Taiwan's economic development and industrial transition. How to master the Mainland business opportunity, and then enter the international community, becomes a challenge for many Taiwanese businessmen.
This thesis is based on the case study and analysis of the enterprise “Yuan-Chu Supply Chain Management Group” which is a joint venture of Mainland China and Taiwanese companies. The enterprise has been operated in the logistics industry for more than ten years. Its operation has gone through stages of traditional logistics, third-party logistics, and fourth-party logistics integration. The enterprise has successfully established a cooperation-competition model with its Taiwanese peers and other different industries. With this case analysis, we can see that Taiwanese logistics enterprises, through their advanced managerial experience, combined with mainland enterprises, have led to the advantages of understanding local laws and regulations and having good people networking. Through having the complementary advantages of bilateral markets, people talent, and technology, these have created a win-win opportunity for both sides. As a result, not only have the Taiwanese companies successfully entered the Mainland market, but they have also moved towards the global operation.
