碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋環境與生態研究所 / 105 / Primary production (PP) is important to the marine environment not only for its ultimate constraint to fishery yields, but also for the regulation of the atmospheric carbon dioxide. Our planet has been ongoing for fast environmental changes such as increasing temperature and atmospheric carbon dioxide. In order to obtain a prediction for the changing future, the relationship between environmental factors and PP has received a great attention. In this study, the investigation of nutrient conditions to PP was conducted in the southern East China Sea in the spring (10-14 May) of 2016. In a <300-km transect in the study area, PP varied in 4-fold, ranging from 304 to 1144 mgC m-2 d-1. Low PP (374±99 mgC m-2 d-1) occurred in the stations with oligotrophic Taiwan Current Warm Water, whereas high PP of 547±297 and 954±268 mgC m-2 d-1 appeared in the runoff-influenced Matsu offshore and the upwelling region in the northeast off Taiwan, respectively. The results indicated that PP, in general, positively correlated with nutrient supply except Station 1, where had different hydrological conditions as low temperature, low phosphate (less than 0.3 μM), and high N/P ratio of 42. Nutrient supply could be estimated using either the depth of nutricline (defined as the depth where the nitrate concentration >1 μM) or the nutrient supply index (NSI; defined as the depth difference between the nutricline and the bottom of the euphotic zone). The PP-nutrient supply relationship could be further applied on model predictions with potential environmental changes.
