Evaluating the Efficiency and Technology Gap of Major Operation Models in Container Terminals - An Application of a Metafrontier Framework / 應用共同邊界法評估貨櫃碼頭機具效率與技術缺口之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 105 / Container terminals play important roles in the liner shipping system by providing buffer zones to shippers, consignees and terminal operators. In addition, efficient shipside operation can shorten the dwell time of ships to increase the competitiveness of carriers’ services. It is worth noting that containers must be handled by cranes because they are quite large and heavy. Therefore, efficient strategies for allocating yard space, dispatching yard cranes and trucks are necessary to increase the efficiency of a container terminal. This study comprises two phases. In the first phase, we divided the operation models into several decision making units (DMUs) according to the yard cranes and trucks used in a container terminal, and then each DMU was simulated for data collection. In the second phase, we measured the efficiency using a metafrontier framework according to the data collected in the first phase. In addition to measuring the efficiency of each DMU, the technology gaps between technology groups were also be measured and compared.
