碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 105 / In the early stage of Taiwan international maritime logistics and transport, the state-owned business "China Merchants" developed in a pattern of the monopolizing the market and played the role which takes a great responsibility in the international transportation. Since 1972 it changed its name to Yangming shipping company. With the Taiwan's economy rising, the demand for international import and export transportaion was increased, a number of private entrepreneurs have been engaged in maritime transport logistics market, and Yangming shipping company was privatised in 1996 in order to increase international competitiveness.
The study employs data envelopment analysis method, and uses the three major liner shipping companies (Yangming, Evergreen, Wanhai) in Taiwan as the appraisal units. The annual financial reports from the three major liner shipping companies are used as the main source of data for analysis. The total assets, operating income, operating costs and operating expenses are the input variables, and operating income and operating profit are the output variables. In view of the fact that only three liner shipping operators, in order to avoid the low degree of discrimination in the inadequate DMUs to be assessed, this study uses window analysis to investigate the performance of the companies from 2006 to 2015.
The research results show that from 2006 to 2015 for ten consecutive years, Wanhai liner shipping company has slightly higher overall average efficiency than the other two operators, which implies that during these 10 years Wanhai liner shipping company outperforms other companies.
