A Study on Students’Ocean Literacy and Marine Interest in Junior High School / 調查國中生海洋素養與海洋興趣之研究

The study to implement concept mapping to investigate junior high school students in regarding ocean literacy and marine interest. The research using random cluster sampling from the grade seven students seven 496 Junior High Schools in I-Lan County, applying samples of 500 students and recovering valid 496 samples The recovery is 99.2 percent. Using the research data to analyze the result to two parts. Part one was to an analysis by using the measurement scale of propositional concept maps. Part two was to analysis the student's interest measurement scale on the marine study.
Research results were shown as follows:
1. The Ocean Literacy of the measurement scale of the propositional concept maps for the junior high school students.
(1) In the marine science literacy questionnaire for the junior high school students, the average score is 95 out of 150. The correct answer rate is 63%. The level is medium.
(2) The top three vocabularies that junior high school students can use them are "Marine," "Atlantic Ocean" and" Tsunami."
(3) The junior high school students who are "living nearby the coast," "female," "having experience on Maritime Museum visiting," "having family work in marine related company" and "the higher school grade" score higher than others in regarding marine science literacy
(4) The concepts of students' ocean literacy are mainly from "the experience of visiting the marine museum. "This part is 65.4 percent. And The one of watching TV is 52.8 percent. And The one of learning from the teacher is 43.5 percent. Those show the shortage of the marine education.
2. In the aspect of the marine interest in Junior High school:
(1) The older junior high school students score significantly higher than the youngers regarding learning interest measurement scale score on "marine literacy society," "marine science" and "marine environment and source."
(2) In the aspect of the marine interests of Junior High school. The male junior high school students scored significantly higher than female regarding learning interest measurement scale score on "marine literacy society," "marine science."
(3) Base on the school location, the junior high school students, study nearby coast score significantly higher learning than the student who is not in regarding "marine leisure," "marine society," "marine science," "marine environment and source」
(4) The students who had the experience of visiting marine museums score significantly higher than those who didn't
have the experience in regarding "marine leisure," "marine society," "marine science" and "marine environment and source.".

Based on the results above, the researcher summarizes conclusion and provides suggestions and references to the authorizes 、teachers and students for the junior high school students’ about the ocean literacy and marine interest.
