Application fishing activity data to explore the fishing grounds distribution characteristics of coastal fisheries in Taiwan / 利用漁業活動資料探究台灣沿近海漁業之漁場分布特性

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 105 / In the present study, we collected fishing activity data from logbook and vessel position data from VDR (Voyage data recorder) of 2272 fishing vessels operating in the coastal water off Taiwan between Jan and Dec 2015. All these data were further processed, integrated and analyzed using GIS (Geographic information system) to explore fishing grounds of coastal fisheries in Taiwan. Relatively higher catch rates were found in Taiwanese seine, torch-lighted, trawling, miscellanous fish long line fisheries, tuna long line and gillnet fisheries, which average catch rates were 1,401, 50, 40, 39, 32 and 20 (kg/hour), respectively. The major fishing grounds of Taiwanese seine fisheries were located in the waters off northeastern and southwestern Taiwan. Its major targeted species included mackerels, scads, and bonitos. The major fishing grounds of torch-lighted fisheries were located in the waters off northeastern Taiwan and Penghu. Its major targeted species included cephalopods, bonitos, herrings and anchovies. The major fishing grounds of trawling fisheries were located in the waters off northeastern and southwestern Taiwan. Its major targeted species included miscellanous fishes, shrimps and hairtails. The major fishing grounds of miscellaneous long line fisheries were located in the waters off eastern and northeastern Taiwan. Its major targeted species included dolphin fishes, billfishes and sharks. The major fishing grounds of tuna long line fisheries were located in the waters off eastern and northeastern Taiwan. Its major targeted species included tunas, billfishes and sharks. The major fishing grounds of gillnet fisheries were located in the coastal waters off western and eastern Taiwan, and Penghu. Its major targeted species included mullets, king mackerels, and billfishes. These results demonstrated that it is feasible to explore fishing grounds of coastal fisheries in Taiwan by the combination and integration of fishing activity data from logbook and vessel position data from VDR (Voyage data recorder) of fishing vessels, which could provide scientific evidence for fisheries management and decision-making.
