An Empirical Study on Entry Mode Choices of Information Technology Companies in Taiwan / 海外進入模式之影響因素-以臺灣電子產業為例

碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 商學研究所 / 105 / The electronic industry in Taiwan has gone through a forming stage in early years and a later scale development stage, and it is now a major part of the country’s economy. Even now, the transforming electronic industry in Taiwan has not shown any sign of deceleration. On top of increasing investment and R&D, Taiwanese electronic industry is also expanding into territories outside of its home land.
This study focuses on the entry mode choice of Taiwan electronic companies, by using theoretical foundations of transaction cost theory, institutional theory, and agency theory. By using data collected from 112 parent companies, this study uses 224 observations as the research sample. The study separates entry mode into “full-control mode” and “shared-control mode”, and uses binary logistic regression model as the main statistical tool. The results are as follows:
1. Under the transaction cost theory, “Advertising-to-sales ratio” shows significant positive influences on full-control mode.
2. Under the institutional theory,” Business freedom” shows significant positive influences on full-control mode, but “Financial freedom” shows significant negative influences on full-control mode.
3. Under the agency theory, “Director and Supervisor Shareholding ratio” shows significant negative influences on full-control mode.
