Home Country Investment and Location Choice: The Case of Taiwan’s Companies / 台商鮭魚回流與區位選擇之探討

碩士 / 靜宜大學 / 國際企業學系 / 105 / In the early period, intensive labor and labor salary in China were worse than Taiwan. In order to promote domestic economic and trade, China government attracts foreign enterprises to invest in China and also formulating a lot of preferential, high benefit policies for foreign enterprises. Under a lot of advantages, Taiwan's labor intensive industries gradually moved to China. With the global environment and economic patterns have change in recent years, Taiwan’s companies, who invested in China, has gradually came back to Taiwan, and it was called "Home Country Investment."
Because Taiwan’s advantages were not better than China in the beginning, most of enterprises shifted their business to China for seeking a bester development. Instead of moving to invest other countries, most enterprises in Taiwan choose come back to invest Taiwan. This study aim to determine the relationship between the variations of China’s environment and home country investment. Second, we further explore the impact of variations in Taiwan's economic structure and industrial structure. This thesis adopts in qualitative research and in-depth interviews with the two senior managers of multinational enterprises. Through their personal experiences and opinions, we explore if location advantage was considered the most essential factor when Taiwan’s enterprises invest under the globalization tendency.
