A Content Analysis of Marine Education in Picture Books Recommended by Ministry of Culture, ROC / 圖畫書中海洋教育的內容分析-以文化部推介之優良課外讀物為範圍

碩士 / 臺北市立大學 / 學習與媒材設計學系課程與教學碩士班 / 105 / The purpose of this study is to analyze the content of marine picture books, recommended by Ministry of Culture, ROC. Not only explore the number and proportion of published books, but also the choice of literary genre, the proportion of “learning theme”, “practical connotation” and the content related to the two above.
  This study adopted content analysis with both quantitative and qualitative research, to analyze 111 marine picture books recommended by Ministry of Culture, ROC. The findings of current study can be summarized as follows:
  The proportion of marine picture books is generally low, and it isn’t affected by the background of different periods. Three-fourth of the literary genre of marine picture books are “natural story” and “life story”, only little of the picture books are written by “myth” and “fable”. No matter what the genre is, marine picture books are all based on the young readers, eapecially children. The “learning theme” of marine picture books focuses on “Marine Culture” and “Marine Science and Technology”, they both occupy 40%. The “practical connotation” of marine picture books focuses on “3-1 Marine Literature” and “4-2 Marine Creatures and Ecology” regardless of main and sub-topics. Whales are the most popular main character of marine stories, and Zheng-He is the only historical character which appears in these picture books.Some of the content of “practical connotation” are less, for example “1-2 Swimming Skills and Self-helping Knowledge”, “2-2 History of Taiwan Marine Development”, “2-3 Consciousness of Marine Sovereignty” “3-3 Marine Art Performance”, “5-1 Aquatic Food”.The study provides pedagogical implications and suggestions for educators, publishers and future researchers, trying to make an effort to marine education.
