The Effects of Cooperative Learning on Teaching Chinese of Vietnamese College students / 合作學習於海外華語教學之應用及成效研究──以越南大學生為例

碩士 / 文藻外語大學 / 華語文教學研究所 / 105 / In Vietnamese schools, the term “teacher-centered” is very popular. This is shown in greeting time when students in class have to stand up when teacher comes and also depends on teachers teaching methods without feedback. However, it may not a suitable way for students to study a foreign language.
To improve class atmosphere quality and reduce students’ fear when learning foreign language, students need to be positive in class. For this reason, cooperative learning method was conducted into class activities. 28 Vietnamese students in Han Nom department were collected this method for one month, focused on Chinese listening and speaking skills.
Author conducted a new teaching “ARMCS” model in this study. It combines ARCS model and the concept of Whole Language Approach and Communicative Language Teaching. These approaches approved that a class should be practical and meaningful to students, and teachers should trust students and give them enough confidence. Also, fluent speech is more important than correct grammar when students give a speech. Although ARMCS and cooperative learning focus on different concerns, “Students-centered” is the same point among them.
As a result, overall there was no improvement in score between pre-test and post-test. However, few students at middle level and low level have processed. It means cooperative learning has influenced on these groups of student. According to group interview, all students mentioned that cooperative learning is a useful method which can be applied widely in the future.
