Creative Study of Taiwan Contemporary Independent Bookstores Poster Design / 台灣當代獨立書店之海報創作研究

碩士 / 國立雲林科技大學 / 視覺傳達設計系 / 105 / Traditional bookstores in early Taiwan most are established after the Chinese publishing house came to Taiwan and are small. Except selling books, they also sell stationary, gifts, and so on. The economic development and improvement of quality gradually led to the rise of chain bookstores. In this environment, “independent bookstores" is located in the various cities and towns in a unique landscape. Different from the chain bookstores, independent bookstores show different styles because of the concept of the owners. Removing the sample recommendation book of the chain bookstores, which bring readers to self-selected selection of taste, as such a space, independent bookstores are not just commodity traders, but also contain the value of the original knowledge providers. At present, there is not much research on the independent bookstores, and nowadays, these cultural values should be popularized and preserved when the network is developed and the physical bookstore is difficult to operate. The purpose of this study is to explore the historical and cultural context of the bookstores and its spiritual value, and to construct the visual elements which are unique to the independent bookstores, and to apply it to the poster creation, hoping to promote the cultural value of independent bookstores in Taiwan. Based on the discussion of the history of bookstores in Taiwan, independent bookstores and posters related literature, this research designed an interview outline, which through the semi-structured interviews with the bookstore owners and field visiting, obtains text and video information, then reorganizes the visual elements to make a creation based on the cultural value of 15 contemporary independent bookstores, and the combination of visual elements that are selected, and the posters with wide dissemination characteristics are chosen as the creative form. Through the literature, in addition to having a more precise definition of independent bookstores, this research also summarizes the historical background of bookstores in Taiwan, the classification of independent bookstores and the four major elements of posters - "Intrinsic elements", "Visual elements", "Organization elements", and "Technical elements". Through the exhibitions of creation and works, in addition to let more people understand the cultural value of independent bookstores, creators themselves also have a more comprehensive understanding for the entire independent bookstores culture.
