碩士 / 逢甲大學 / 公共事務與社會創新研究所 / 106 / With the national defense policy of conscription, the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) vigorously recruited soldiers as military volunteers. However, the rate of willingness to retain a military volunteer has dropped than before. As a result, the soldiers of CGA have gradually left the military to do non-military work. Therefore, this study aims to investigate whether the retention willingness of CGA soldiers was affected by its internal factors such as salary, welfare, leadership, job identification, and job satisfaction or its external factors like economic environment and family support.
The participants are CGA military volunteers in central area (except for Kinmen) and a self-developed questionnaire was used to explore the willingness of the soldiers to retain in the military. 300 questionnaires were distributed to CGA military volunteers in central part of Taiwan and 274 questionnaires were returned excluding 26 invalid questionnaires. The return rate was 91.3%. In order to analyze the data, descriptive statistics, mean, standard deviation, one-way ANONA, regression analysis and discriminant analysis were used.
The results showed that there were significant differences among soldiers’ gender, age, level and length of service in term of willingness to retain a military volunteer. Second, there was negative relationship between soldiers’ willingness of retaining military volunteers and his/her salary, welfare, leadership, job identification and family support. Finally, the study found the positive relationship between soldiers’ willingness of retaining military volunteers as well as economic environment, and his/her job satisfaction.
