Design of Power-Free Underwater Vehicle Rudder for Kuroshio Power Generation / 應用於黑潮發電之無動力水下載具舵片設計

博士 / 國立高雄應用科技大學 / 土木工程與防災科技研究所 / 106 / The current of Kuroshio is a steady flow with speed less than 1.5 m/sec. To collect Kuroshio energy for power generation, a power-free underwater vehicle designed for carrying generation turbines works under the sea to resist surface waves of current flow affected by season wind and extreme typhoon waves. In this study, some symmetric profiles of the rudder are proposed and calculated the lifting and drag force in the Kuroshio current to find the optimal rudder profile for the power-free underwater vehicle. Then, mechanical behavior of the rudder subjected to extreme typhoon conditions with the normal option condition at 1.0m/sec and 25-year return period was determined by using finite element method. Results indicate that the rudder profile of power-free underwater vehicle, NACA0008.5-32.8LEE, has more efficient lift force with 19.1% increment. For a horizontal two-rudder arrangement, 96.3% lift force was found as the distance of two rudders is 5 times of rudder’s chord line. To reduce the effect of turbulent flow caused by the front rudder that acts on rear rudder, the minimum distance between two rudders was found to be 5 times of rudder’s chord line. When the rudders experienced a net flow velocity 3.81 m/sec caused by the interaction of typhoon waves and ocean currents, the finite element analysis revealed that the maximum equivalent (von-Mises) stress, the maximum principal stress and the maximum displacement were 174.79 MPa, 209.88 MPa and 7.1 mm, respectively, occurred at both sides of the tail end, representing the mechanical behavior of the rudders maintains elastic during operation of the vehicle. In order to protect the power generation equipment and consider the stability of power generation, the vehicles should be diving before the attack of extreme typhoon waves. In addition, the calculation time of CFD had better be 10 times of the time step of the flow passing through the computational domain to obtain the convergence result .for the power-free underwater vehicle at 1.0 m/sec. The Kuroshio power generation is a feasible scheme for the policy of nuclear-free homeland by Taiwan government in 2025, especially in this study that provides the rudders of the power-free underwater vehicle suitable for the Kuroshio region even in the presence of extreme typhoon waves.
