An Experimental Investigation on the Thermal and Hydraulic Performance of Heat Sinks with Nonuniform Heating on the Base / 散熱鰭片於不均勻加熱條件之壓降及熱傳量測與探討

碩士 / 國立高雄應用科技大學 / 機械工程系 / 106 / Both the hydraulic and thermal performance of different types of heat sinks, including plate-fin heat sinks, pin-fin heat sinks made of aluminum alloy 6061 and copper foam heat sinks, were measured with either uniform or non-uniform heating on the square heat sink base of 45 mm in width in a wind tunnel in this study. The plate-fin heat sinks possess 11, 13 and 16 plates, while the pin-fin heat sinks possess 25, 64 and 100 square pins. Besides, the metal foam heat sinks with different porosity and pore density were also tested here. The width of the square heat source attached to the center on the bottom of the heat sink base was 45, 20, 10 or 4 mm, and the frontal velocity of the air was 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 m/s without bypass.
As the air velocity and the height of heat sink were 5 m/s and 10 mm, respectively, with uniform heating on the heat sink base, the measured pressure drop of the metal foam heat sink having porosity and pore density of 0.93 and 10 PPI, the 16-plate fin array and the 100-pin fin array were 131.79 Pa, 44.38 Pa and 29.73 Pa, respectively, while the measured thermal resistance of the abovementioned heat sinks were 0.95, 1.28, and 2.59 K/W, respectively. The resulting heat transfer coefficient of those heat sinks were 163.69、50.92、42.61 W/m2K.
As the air velocity and the height of heat sink were 5 m/s and 10 mm, respectively, with a heater of 20, 10 and 4 mm in width at the center of the heat sink base, the measured thermal resistance of the metal foam heat sink having porosity and pore density of 0.93 and 10 PPI was 0.99, 1.06, and 1.19 K/W, respectively, and that of the 16-plate fin array was 1.56, 1.90, 1.95 K/W, respectively. As the 100-pin fin array were tested with a heater of 20, 10 and 4 mm in width at the center of the heat sink base, the measured thermal resistance was 2.91, 3.22, and 3.34 K/W, respectively.
