A Touch-Screen IME Error Correction Method - Using Boshiamy Input Method / 基於觸控螢幕之輸入法錯誤校正方法-以嘸蝦米為例

碩士 / 國立交通大學 / 資訊學院資訊學程 / 106 / With the wide spread of handheld mobile devices, the input methodologies employed shifted from actual physical keyboards to virtual keyboards on screens. On handheld devices however, due to the size of the screens, the typing actions performed by hands transformed from the stroking of physical keyboards with all ten fingers, to the touching actions performed by two thumbs on the touch screen. Meanwhile, due to the lack of indexing dents on the F and J keys to assist in the location of key positions on the keyboard, the muscle memories and reflexes associated with the typing motions is rendered unreliable. With the above mentioned reasons, users are prone to mistype word roots on neighboring virtual keys during typing. The majority of current handheld devices on the market now base their choice of suitable words on the assumption that the inputs of word radicals by the users are in essence, correct in their nature.

Traditional Chinese computer input methodology is generally divided into two major categories, the Pinying (phonic) input methodology and that of the shape-based input methodology. This thesis describes the use of a word shape-based input methodology known as the "Boshiamy input" on handheld devices and the introduction of an auto-correction methodology through the calculation and assignment in the weight of key strokes associating word radicals involved in the cases where the radicals were correctly identified but mistyped due to the misplaced stroke location on the screen. The algorithm is designed to dictate through logics based on neighboring words before and after the mistyped word which appropriate word should be in place. Through the associated experiment result, the employment of this corrective algorithm effectively reduces the likelihood of typos, enhancing the efficiency of typing.
