The research of characteristics from water source of Hydrogen production by water electrolysis / 電解水產氫之水源特性分析研究

碩士 / 國立交通大學 / 照明與能源光電研究所 / 106 / The purpose of this study is to look for a large number of water sources that can be obtained at low cost in addition to DI Water, in order to provide proton exchange membrane fuel cells ( PEM + MEA ) to do the hydrogen production from water electrolysis. For long time efficiency tests, DI Water can achieve maximum efficiency and longevity, but purifying it to DI Water represents high costs. The test results of this study show which water source is the most suitable for largely generating hydrogen.
In this experiment, tap water, rainwater, seawater along the coast of Anping in Tainan, waters in the upstream, midstream, and downstream of Zengwen River in southern Taiwan use as a large number of water source to generate hydrogen with PEMFC. The experiment time is 100 hours, the voltage and current are controlled at 2.5 V and 4 A, and the water temperature is 25 °C, and hourly measure the production of hydrogen and oxygen per minute
by drainage gas collection method, each water source will be compared with DI Water.
Use the highest efficiency of DI Water 29.053 ml per minute as comparison, the initial efficiency of DI Water is 27.981 ml/min, and the final efficiency is 25.321 ml/min. In addition to DI Water, the most stable and efficient water is rainwater. The initial efficiency of rainwater is 28.421 ml/min and the final efficiency is 14.734 ml/min. The worst is seawater, with an initial efficiency of 11.0043 ml/min and a final efficiency of 0 ml/min.
Different water sources perform differently under long time efficiency tests. The biggest factor is the impurities in the water. In this study, ICP-MS use to detect impurities in the water, and using GC-MS to test if the hydrogen produced affected by impurities in the water.
