Feasibility Study of Atmospheric-Pressure Plasma Jet on the Sterilization of Human Cancellous Bone / 常壓電漿束於人體海綿骨之殺菌可行性研究

碩士 / 國立交通大學 / 機械工程系所 / 106 / Osteomyelitis is the most common diseases in orthopedic whereas Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)is the primary pathogenic bacteria. In the present study, the effect of the an argon-based atmospheric pressure plasma jet(APPJ)on MRSA sterilization of human cancellous bone is evaluated by means of experimental efforts. Experiments conducted include the sterilization experiment on superficial layer of bone samples, the MRSA cell morphology observation using SEM, the penetration experiment, the penetration depth sterilization experiment, as well as the implants sterilization experiment. Sterilization experiments were conducted on human bone samples in which MRSA was incubated. Experimental results show that the effect of APPJ on the sterilization of the superficial layer of human cancellous bone was excellent. With 300 seconds APPJ treatment, the sterilization rate was as high as 90%. For the deeper layers, the effect of sterilization rate was diminishing. With 300 seconds APPJ treatment, the sterilization rate reduced to 65%. APPJ was also found effective on sterilization of bone implants, an 70% sterilization rate can be achieved with 300 seconds APPJ treatment.
