A Study of Local Tourism Strategy: A Case Study of Wanggong Wharf Festival / 地方觀光策略的研究—以王功漁火節為例

碩士 / 國立彰化師範大學 / 公共事務與公民教育學系 / 106 / Worldwide, many places are considering the development of tourism resource and place marketing as essential policy to boost their economic prosperity. Since 1990s, festivals have gradually attracted the attention of Taiwanese local governments for local tourism development and business opportunities. Started in 2005, The Changhua County Government launched “Wanggong Wharf Festival” as a development policy, in order to transformed Wanggong from a traditional wharf village into a multi-purpose wharf that combines leisure, tourism and fishing to revitalize local industries, promote local tourism and local prosperity. The study takes “Wanggong Wharf Festival” as a case study, the purpose of this study was to investigate the concept and effect of local government’s festivals to promote tourism development, to explore the interaction of community participation in local tourism development and what difficulties they are encounting. The study finding may serve as a guide for the future of tourism strategy of local government.
The research approach adopts qualitative research method, mainly based on documentary, analysis method and in-depth interview method. The research findings point to three impacts in which “Wanggong Wharf Festival” a boost for regional development: (1) building image of the local tourism festivals and enhances the willingness of tourist to travel; (2) generating sense of place and local identity with residents, but lack of bonding community participation and alienated from public opinion; (3) the festival content has not link up in local industries and community resources. In sum of, the study carried out that most of the interviewee indicated the festival benefited local tourism, believed that the event should be held continuously.
