Composition and distrubtion of PAHs and PBDEs in zooplankton in the Gaoping coastal waters / 高屏沿近海域多環芳香烴及多溴聯苯醚 於浮游動物之組成與分布

碩士 / 國立東華大學 / 海洋生物研究所 / 106 / Both polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are one of the persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which have the following characteristics: low solubility, lipophilicity, caricinogenicity, bioaccumulation, and biomagnification. PAHs are mainly produced by the oil spills and incomplete combustion of fossil fuels. PBDEs are brominated flame retardants, which were widely used in various applications including in furniture, electric equipments, and vehicles. Zooplankton are the primary consumer and play an important role in the transport of POPs from seawater into the marine food web. Zooplankton samples were collected at 16 stations in the Gaoping coastal water (three transects: Kaohsiung Harbor, Gaoping River estuary, and Fangshan) using the six cruises of RV Ocean Research III from August 2014 to April 2016. In the present study, we examined the species composition and the concentrations of PAHs and PBDEs of zooplankton. The results showed that the mean abundance of zooplankton was higher in December 2014 and April 2015 than in the rest of sampling months. Copepods were the most dominant taxa (with a relative abundance >50%) during the survey period. The PAHs concentrations of zooplankton ranged between 5 and 5440 ng/g dw. Higher PAHs concentrations were observed on transect Kaohsiung Harbor than on transects of Gaoping River estuary and Fangshan. The highest mean concentration of PAHs was recorded in August 2014. The variation of PAHs concentration did not match the zooplankton abundance well. 2-Methylanphthalene, 1-Methylnaphthalene, 2,6-Dimethylnaphthalene, Phenanthrene, 2-Methylanthracene, 9,10-Dimethylanthracene, and 2-Methylphenanthrene, which produced by petroleum and petrochemical fuel, were the most abundant compounds in zooplankton in the study. The PBDEs concentrations of zooplankton ranged between 0 and 1415 ng/g dw, with the higher concentrations on transect Kaohsiung Harbor than on transects of Gaoping River estuary and Fangshan. The highest mean concentration of PBDEs was recorded in April 2016. BDE-002, BDE-015, BDE-017, BDE-099, BDE-190, and BDE-209 were the most abundant compounds in zooplankton. No apparent correlations were observed between the concentrations of PAHs and PBDEs and the abundance of dominant taxa of zooplankton. The bioaccumulations of PAHs and PBDEs in zooplankton were insignificant. The total PAH and PBDE concentrations recorded in the study were higher than those in the other areas in the world. The results demonstrated that the Gaoping coastal waters have been greatly influenced by contaminants produced from shipping and industrial activities.
