The Status Quo and Challenges of Taiwan Yacht Club / 台灣遊艇俱樂部現況與挑戰

碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 航運管理研究所 / 106 / Taiwan’s yachts manufacturing techniques have won the global-appreciation, but the yachts industry still does very little with the island’s economy. For the long-term concern, Taiwan is sure to transform itself into a yacht-use country from a yacht-producing one. This way, the yacht industry would contribute more to Taiwan’s economic growth. When it comes to developing the yacht service industry, how clubs manage yacht marina plays a key factor. Club operators need to design marina features to attract people and create markets. Moreover, to inspire the marina and its surrounding business.
This study adopts grounded theory. By interviewing yacht club operators with different business models, the writer stands in the operators’ shoes, outlining the challenges yacht clubs are currently facing in the initial stage and conclude the situation of accessing related public resources and its derivative issues.
The research shows that the challenges encountered by the yacht clubs during the initial period include five aspects: the government, the culture, the contracts, the land development and the yacht parking. Among the five, the yacht parking problem is the most-mentioned by the operators. The challenges of the government are mainly about ambiguous attitude, different interpretations of regulations, numerous bonded organizations, and vague authorities; the cultural issue involves that the marine culture is immature and the habits of marine leisure activities is yet to be formed ; the contract and land development aspects deal with how much the government would do to support the yacht industry; the topic of yacht parking talks about the quality and quantity of the ports and the complicated application processes.
To sum up, the writer suggest besides controlling the port flow, restricting the contracts, supervising the land development, and considering foreign experience to formulate the control principles of yacht industry development, the government should provide the yacht club companies several developmental interests and incentives. By doing so, we attract both domestic and foreign club companies to invest in Taiwan’s yacht leisure market. With the open policy of the yacht usage and the promotion of marine culture, the goal of the sustainable yacht economics would be achieved.
