碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 造船及海洋工程研究所 / 106 / Nowadays sea anchors are the essential safety equipment to boats and yachts. It can not only provide better stability to ships when which in off state, but cut down the rate of accident when ships encounter extreme weather.
The study used numerical simulation to calculate the current force suffered by sea anchor. Select two real size sea anchors, they are 5.5m and 4.6m diameter. The geometric model has been built by Rhinoceros 3D software. Ansys Fluent was used to calculate the force suffered by sea anchor in current velocities. In the other hand, from size table of sea anchor as reference by website, two different size yachts have been choose to correspond to sea anchors.Experience formula of current forces and wind forces on ship have been applied to estimate ship loads, analysis total load on ships in general condition and extreme condition. Finally the numerical simulation results of sea anchor, and the loads of suitable ships have been compared comprehensively.
Resulting from sea anchor numerical simulation, both of 5.5m and 4.6m diameter sea anchors seem can hold the ship loads. The study shows that it seems to provide a theoretical basis for ship owners when they’re choosing sea anchors. They can choose both suitable and safe sea anchors according to the size of the ships.
