碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 漁業生產與管理研究所 / 106 / The age and growth of the Red mullet goatfish (Upeneus japonicas), specimens collected from the waters off southwestern Taiwan, during January 2017 to December 2017 were examined in this study. Age was estimated by using otolith. In total, 861 fishes including 411 males, and 425 females, as well as 25 unsex individuals were collected. Then using 460 otolith samples to be aging. Significant difference was found on the relationship between total weight (TW) and fork length (FL) for sex, therefore the data was separated : TW=0.0127FL3.083 (R2=0.964; n=425) for female;TW=0.011FL3.133 (R2=0.961; n=411) for male.
Based on the results of this study, the periodical rings of otolith should be a annual rings. The formation of annuli for the species was found between January and March. The maximum ages for female and male fishes were estimated to be 7 and 5. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters were FLt=16.872(1-e(-0.236(t+1.884))) for female;
FLt=12.266(1-e(-0.684(t+0.493))) for male.
