碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 漁業生產與管理研究所 / 106 / This study aims to examine the reproductive biology of the Greater lizardfish (Saurida tumbil) in the waters off southwestern Taiwan. A total of 844 specimens (373 female, 467 male and 4 unsexed) were collected monthly from bottom trawler during October 2016 to October 2017 at the Ke-zi-liao fishing port, Kaohsiung City. Based on the macroscopic appearance, histological examination of ovary, estimations of gonadosomatic index (GSI) and group maturity rate, the oocyte development could be divided into 8 stages, and the spawning of S. tumbil occurs whole year with two peaks from April to June and September to December. The relationships between fork length (FL) and body weight (BW) showed significant difference between sexes by Likelihood ratio test (χ2=32.95, p<0.05), and can be described as follows: female: BW=5.1×10-3FL3.2113 (R2=0.9558; n=373); male: BW=2.93×10-3FL3.4023 (R2=0.9557; n=467). Sex ratio was significantly different by Chi-square Test (p<0.05). The total fecundity (F) of this species were estimated as 425,995±78,113. Size at 50% maturity (FL50) were estimated to be 273.30 mm FL for female and 158.27 mm FL for male.
