The Study of Journey of a New Immigrant Mother Live in Offshore Island Educated Her Own Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder / 離島新住民母親教養自閉症兒童歷程之研究

碩士 / 國立屏東大學 / 特殊教育學系碩士班 / 106 / The approach of this study was narrative research to investigate a new immigrant mother who own a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Discuss the factor of the stresses and the difficults weighed her down, the adjustments of the psychological journey and the resilience during the process of educate child. After analyzed the resulting data collected from long time in-depth observation and interview, wrote the life story of Chiou Chiou’s mother married from a long distance original family to Taiwan who born and educated child with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The results of the study were that the factor of the participator’s stresses and difficults , adjustments of the psychological journey and resilience. The principal conclusion was the following:
A. The stresses and the difficults of a offshore island new immigrant mother who own a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
1. Cultural differences
2. Language differences
3. Lack of social interaction
4. Lack of the knowledge of education
5. Generation gap

B. The adjustments of the psychological journey of the offshore island new immigrant mother is similar to Taiwan island.
1. To be shocked and remain in doubts.
2. Sad, angry and anxiety
3. To compromise
4. Depression
5. To accept

C. The resilience of a offshore island new immigrant mother educates a child with Autism spectrum Disorder.
1. Great adaptability (accept the situation, stress resistant, seize the moment.)
2. Positive and active ( to search the society resources, external support, communication, to cooperate with others.)
3. High EQ ( to control the impulse, positive, optimisstic, empathy, to keep a grateful heart.)
4. Problem solving skills ( to think independently, to vew from a different perspective, anaylsis, goals confirmed, calm resolve.
5. Self indentification, self-worth ( without inferiority, to identify your uniqueness, to recognize your value. )
6. Self-motivation, self efficacy ( positive belief, to recover quickly from the difficult, to love learning, to be clear about the life direction with confidence.)
  The study findings may serve as a guide for further research for the governement agencies and new immigrant mothers who has special needs.
