碩士 / 國立臺中教育大學 / 美術學系碩士班 / 106 / Ever since ancient times, gorgeous night views have been regarded as the symbol of prosperity and progress. However, when artificial light sources became cheap and convenient, people began to use them unrestrainedly. This overturned humans and ecology’s habit of adjusting to day/night alternation, which was developed after thousands of years of evolution. Humans insatiably exploited the resources on Earth, making light pollution a disaster of civilization. The aim of this creation study was to increase people’s understanding and attention to light pollution through the posters created for this issue. The public could therefore rethink the role the light played in our life and improve their habit of using light.
This research project was divided into three stages. First was the stage of creative concepts, where the background, motives, and aims of this creation study were established. The second stage was to establish the two main series, “the Shadow” and “the Light,” through literature review and collection and understanding the impacts of light pollution and the actions aimed to reduce light pollution. The study investigated the issue of light pollution with passive and active methods, and five series were established based on the subtopics: I. “Self-immolation of the Light”: Investigating the impacts of light pollution on humans. II. “Setting the Light to Keep the Geese”: Describing the impacts of light pollution on the ecology. III. “May Flowers Forget April Showers”: Explaining the impacts of light pollution on the environment. IV. “Glorify the Ancestors, Benefit the Descendants”: Promoting the usage of the right lighting devices. V. “Benign and Openhearted”: Promoting the correct habit of using light. Fifteen posters were made, each focusing on different aspects. The development of this creative style was based on the study of the trend of flat design. The third stage was to execute the creation. With the issues discussed in the literature review as the basis, specific events and appeals based on different aspects of the issues served as the creative element. They were later illustrated with vector software and finally presented in the form of single poster in hope that more people could acknowledge the importance of this issue.
Through reinvestigating the creative techniques of the works and the application of flat design, the creative techniques and breakthroughs of the creator and the presentation of applying flat design were reflected to serve as the reference and example for future creations.
