Economic Analysis of Haliotis diversicolor and Haliotis discus farming of Taiwan / 臺灣九孔與鮑魚養殖產業經濟分析

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 水產養殖學系 / 106 / This study conducted a biological and economic visit to the small abalone (Haliotis diversicolor) and abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) farming industry in Northeastern of Taiwan. To explore key production factors in the production process of small abalone and abalone culture. The investigation process is based on field investigation, collecting the biological variables groups, production cost groups, and profit-making variables groups in the production operations of farming. After the data had been collected, the differences of farming location and culture mode are used as factors to carry out multivariate analysis of variance, discriminant function analysis, canonical correlation analysis and Cobb–Douglas function related to discussion.
In the part of culture mode, it is not only with short cycle but also with high survival rate. The cost group is only with difference on seed cost, and the profitability is similar. It shows that compare with small abalone, the abalone culture is the species with higher capital intensity, but benefit-cost ratio (BCR) is similar.
In the part of location, Meiyan mountain with better design of size and good water flow, which can take away the metabolic waste by using the tide, so it has better survival rate and higher density, and the net has better income; In the Fulian part, the producers are operating in a sideline manner, resulting in poor performance of biological groups and lower survival rates and densities.
Based on the results of Multivariate analysis of Variance, we also designed a polyculture ratio profit forecasting model to assist the industry in arranging the polyculture ratio of the small abalone and abalone in the coming year.
In canonical correlation analysis part, in the monoculture part, with the increase of survival rate or stocking density, will result in an increase in total cost, net income and benefit-cost ratio (BCR). This is due to the increase in survival rate, which leads to an increase in production, resulting in total cost, net income, and BCR. And the part of polyculture, with the increase of stocking density, not only the increase of the total cost and net income, but also the decrease of the ratio of benefits to the present, because of the current high stocking density is mainly based on the main stocking of small abalone, a few amount of abalone, which means that although the stocking density is increased, net income and BCR still would decrease.
In Cobb–Douglas function part, not only monoculture type but also polyculture type did not have scale economies effect. Therefore, at current stage of farming technology, it is not suitable to increase investment.
