碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋生物研究所 / 106 / Taiwan is an island with a long coastline where complex marine ecosystems are formed including mangroves, rocky shores, marshes and sandy beaches. Previous research on marine fungi of Taiwan has documented 107 species, but they were mainly discovered from mangrove habitats. Comparatively, marine fungi on sandy beaches are understudied. Therefore, sandy beaches are ideal places for the study of marine fungi in Taiwan. In this study, 11 major sandy beaches in Taiwan, including Taipei Shalun Beach, Taoyuan Guanyin Beach, Miaoli Ciding Beach, Taichung Daan Beach, Changhua Rouzongjiao, Tainan Kunshen Beach, Yilan Yongzhen Seaside Park, Hualien Fengbin Beach, Taitung Chong’an, Pisirian and Shanyuan Beach, were selected and visited for the collection of sand and buried wood samples to study the diversity of marine fungi. A total of 13 species of marine ascomycetes were recovered from samples collected from 11 different sandy beaches in Taiwan, including 9 species of Corollospora, of which Corollospora sp. 3 and C. pulchella were the top two dominant species overall, making up 61% of the total examined fruiting bodies. The highest diversity index was obtained at Taichung Daan Beach, while the lowest value was at Tainan Kunshen Beach. Two unknown or possible novel species were found on wood, including a Savoryella-like sp. 2 collected at Yongzhen Seaside Park and a Lasiodiplodia species discovered at Yongzhen Seaside Park and Chong'an. The phylogenetic analysis of Corollospora spp. based on the partial 28S rDNA suggested that cryptic species might be present in the Corollospora maritima clade. In order to fully uncover marine fungi in sandy beaches, more samples should be collected from beaches of Taiwan and a multi-gene phylogenetic analysis should be used to study the phylogenetic relationships between Corollospora species.
