碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 106 / There are two major Loliginidae squids commonly found in the coastal water off Taiwan, including Uroteuthis (Photololigo) edulis and U. (P.) chinensis. The former is mainly distributed in the water off northeastern Taiwan while the latter is mainly distributed in the Taiwan Strait. The present study aims to investigate age, growth and reproduction of U. (P.) chinensis. A total of 4,099 specimens were routinely collected from Penghu and southwestern Taiwan between 2013 and 2017. The average mantle length (ML) and body weight (BW) of U. (P.) chinensis was 141.2±42.5 mm and 84.8±62.8 g, respectively. The ML-BW relationship of U. (P.) chinensis were expressed as BW = 0.0006ML^2.3853 (n=1685, R² = 0.9565, P<0.01) and BW = 0.001ML^2.2637 (n=2328, R² = 0.963, P<0.01) for female and male, respectively. The ML at 50% maturity of U. (P.) chinensis was 173.93 mm for female and 175.66 mm for male, respectively. The oldest U. (P.) chinensis was 202 days old. The relationship between ML and daily growth increments of statolith in U. (P.) chinensis was expressed as ML = 37.329e^0.01t (n=1203, R² = 0.7055, P<0.01) for female and ML=27.971e^0.0121t (n=1690, R² = 0.8282, P<0.01) for male, respectively. The hatch dates of all specimens were determined by the back calculation of daily increments of statoliths, which further indicated that U. (P.) chinensis spawned in the whole year with two peaks in spring (February to March) and autumn (September to November).
