Advantages or Disadvantages During the 2008-09 Financial Crisis?─The Effects of Trade Partners and Network Centrality / 面對金融海嘯的優勢或劣勢─論貿易夥伴表現及網絡中心性之效果

碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 國家發展研究所 / 106 / When it comes to the impact of financial crisis on a country’s growth rate, most literatures explored the differences in terms of macroeconomic factors. However, due to globalization, the interaction between countries has become closer and economies have become interdependent. Differences in growth rates of countries when they face external crises can no longer be explained by endogenous factors alone. Therefore, this research attempts to explore the advantages and disadvantages of a country when it faces the financial crisis from a different perspective, namely, dynamic international trade relations.
This research uses the methods of regression analysis, spatial analysis and social network analysis. It explores whether the performance of trading partners and the network centrality of a country would affect the degree of economic recession caused by the 2008-09 financial crisis, as well as the degree of economic recovery after one, two and three years of the crisis. The result of this research shows that the performance of trading partners and the network centrality would affect the degree of economic recovery after the financial crisis, but the effects were significant in different years.
