碩士 / 朝陽科技大學 / 企業管理系 / 107 / Recently, the impact of the declining birthrate in Taiwan have caused many elementary schools and junior high schools alike to suffer a sharp shrink of the amount of students, some of which are even facing the crippling future of closing down. In view of the said phenomenon, many schools have begun to employ the strategies of short-term study abroad to attract more students.
Likewise, the businesses of after school class that help remedy students’ sluggish English abilities are facing the crisis of student shortage, urban areas in particular. Consequently, how to expand the business and further boost the profits has become their major concern. Based on the aforementioned, the present study aims to investigate parents’ preferences and the determining factors that drive them to favor the short-term study abroad and that include the six aspects below: aspects of teaching, aspects of the tour country, aspects of living, aspects of service provided, aspects of individuals, and aspects of cost. 720 questionnaires were dispatched, with 461 valid copies in return. The present paper have concluded the following: (1) parents’ preferences for study tours suggest that in most cases, the discussion of parents (and children) plays a key role in whether the children will take on the study tour or not, and the most popular form of the tour features the four-week package composed of studying and touring. Given that students of elementary school and junior high school are not fully able to take care of themselves, team teachers are required to assist and take care of them and to keep the parents informed of their children and make them less worried, which functions as the incentive for the parents to make their children participant such study tours; and (2) parents tend to prioritize security in aspects of the tour country over aspects of teaching and aspects of living. Finally, the present paper suggest that in design the DM on short-term study abroad packages, the businesses make stand out the supreme services of making parents assured and reassured, helping children yield tremendous fruit (as well as make memories), the all-time attention and care, and constantly keeping parents updated.
