碩士 / 朝陽科技大學 / 應用英語系 / 107 / From 1993, the primary school could offer English classes in group activity class under the conditions of its teachers on hand and adequate facilities. From then on, the primary school students in Taiwan indulged into the atmosphere of learning English at school. Since September, 1999, it has been implemented from the sixth-grade students. In 2001, the "National High School Curriculum Outline" was promulgated, requiring all national primary and secondary schools to establish a curriculum development committee to develop the school-based curriculum and to innovate the school characteristics. The Executive Yuan announced in 2002 that English would become the official language. The importance of English learning has gradually attracted the attention of the people in Taiwan, and it has also formed a bilingual learning craze. The study is mainly to explore the correlation between the background and the English learning preference of the junior high school students. The participants are the students of H Private Junior High School in Taichung City, and 265 questionnaires were distributed to investigate the preference of English learning.
In order to explore the current blind spots of English education and to strengthen the implementation of English teaching, so as to solve the problems that junior high school students may face in learning English, this study aims at exploring the preference of English learning by means of applying the category variables of English learning preference, and proposes three analytical methods. First, the t-test is applied to examine the differences of 20 satisfaction items. The result shows 18 items are significantly correlative. Second, this study applies the chi-square test to check whether the basic variables have significant correlation. The result shows 12 items are significantly correlative. Third, Logistic regression model is established to determine the correctness of English learning preference. The result shows the accuracy rate of the model is 79.3%. Finally, three poorest items from the 20 ones according to the Logistic regression model as improvement items, and offers suggestions for improvement strategies, the purpose of which is to improve the implementation of English learning in H junior high school.
