The Current Situation of Using Handheld Device to Assist Mathematics Learning - A Comparison Study of Taiwan andMainland China / 使用手持裝置輔助數學學習之現況研究-以海峽兩岸為例

碩士 / 嶺東科技大學 / 企業管理系碩士班 / 107 / In recent years, with the development of science and technology, in mathematics education, how to help teachers make students easy to learn mathematics or not to exclude this subject has always been the subject of research by mathematics educators.
With the development of digital products, 3C products are easier to obtain nowadays. One report written by National Development Committee in 2018 shows that almost everyone gets a smart phone in Taiwan, and has become increasingly inseparable from mobile phones.
The main purpose of this study is to understand the current situation of using handheld device to assist mathematics learning and teaching between Taiwan and Mainland China. The study objects are college students (study the situation when they were in high school) and the high school math teachers.
A questionnaire of “Using Handheld Devices on Learning Mathematics (UHDLM)” was developed. The contents presented were partial results of the project funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of Taiwan. under Grant No. MOST 106-2511-S-275-004 -MY2.
Questionnaire of UHDLM was used as the measurement instrument in order to investigate the situation of using handheld devices on learning mathematics.
This instrument was developed and revised many times during Feb. to June, 2018. This instrument was developed and revised five times during Feb. to Jun., 2018. Finally, there are 6 problems in the first part, 31 problems each in the second and third part, totally 68 Problems, in the formal questionnaires for high school teachers and university students.
The short conclusion of this study is as follow:
The use of handheld devices to assist mathematics learning has not yet been fully popularized in Taiwan and Mainland China. There is only Taiwanese teachers have a usage rate of more than 60%, and the usage rate of students on both sides of the Taiwan Strait is only about 40%.
However, the results also show that both students and teachers in Taiwan and China have more than 68% of the “willingness” to use, and more than 70% of “satisfaction” after use handheld devices in mathematic learning.
This means that there has a very good effect of using handheld devices to assist mathematics learning in mathematics education, and it’s a project that can be continuously promoted and developed in the future.
