Remodeling of the main spatial axes in Tainan -A case study on the function and landscape reshaping of China-Town-Area and Hai-An Road / 臺南都市空間軸線的重塑-以中國城舊址與海安路的功能與景觀再造為例

碩士 / 國立成功大學 / 建築學系 / 107 / This paper based on the Tainan Chinatown and Hai-an Road underground street, which are located at the most important intersection of the blue and green double-ring in Tainan, but they have brought about various negative effects and space aftermath due to the government's wrong policy. Firstly, this paper discusses the shape and space development of the urban axis in Tainan, and explains its close relationship with the Old Five Channels Cultural Zone in the historic district of Tainan. Secondly, it discusses the development of the underground street of Chinatown and Hai-an Road, expounds the causes and consequences of the failure of these two urban development cases, and deeply analyzes the renewal opportunities of these two space endgames. After analyzing the urban case similar to the scale of the modern base and the background of the space and the underground street of Hai-an Road, this paper reflect on the regeneration opportunities of the underground street of Hai-an Road and find a solution strategy for urban design. Finally, in view of the above analysis and research on the urban environment, and on the premise of existing land planning and urban positioning, a substantial urban renewal plan is proposed to revitalize the connection between Chinatown and Hai-an Road and complete the Tainan blue-green double-ring, and then combine the surrounding areas with urban open space for overall planning.

In this paper, the core strategies of the three major spatial transformations will be proposed to integrate the legacy facilities of Chinatown with the underground streets of Hai-an Road, and at the same time transform the concept into actual drawings as a drill for spatial planning to demonstrate the conceptual and spatial feasibility of urban design.

The three major spatial transformation strategies proposed in this study are as follows:
1. the remodeling of the central axis of Zhong-zheng Road:
Firstly, Hai-an Road and Zhong-zheng Road are connected in series through the underground corridor to restore the Tainan urban axis. After the Chinese city buildings are demolished, the view of the Zhong-zheng Road is opened, and the structure is partially reserved, which is planned as the Endview Plaza for people to relax and communication. Finally, by re-linking the activities of the Zhong-zheng Business Circle, a cultural corridor or a municipal corridor will be set up in the underground space of Zhong-zheng Road, and a hydrophilic space will be set up in the former site of Chinatown. Shopping streets and small performing arts spaces will be planned on both sides to continue the crowd in the Zhong-zheng business circle.

2. the transformation of Hai-an Road and idle underground street:
The functions of the original Hai-an Road underground street will be redistributed, and the basement level will be planned as a shopping street. The food street, the popular life shopping street, the art space, the culture and creative market and the fresh market will be set up to strengthen the commercial function of the underground street. The design will restore the landscaping concept in the ground landscape and plan the series of bicycle lanes. By setting up nodes at important intersections, the design set up different entrance images for different cultural characteristics to guide people flow. The market of the Narcissus Palace will be relocated to improve the operating environment of the stalls. Improve the ventilation tower of Hai-an Road, which originally seriously damaged the landscape of the boulevard. It is planned to bulge only about 50 cm on the ground, and the huge volume is collected in the space of three meters underground. Rationally allocate underground parking space and plan locomotive parking space on the second floor of the underground to meet modern transportation needs.

3. The restoration of the historical features of the Five Channels Area:
Five Channels Area is an important time and space background in this paper. In this area, Nan-he Port is the most important river channel in the Five Channels Area of the Qing Dynasty. This design reproduces the prosperous prosperity of Nan-he Port by restoring its old river track. Shen-nong Street is currently the most well-preserved historical street in this area. The design plan guide the flow of people through the hint of pavement conversion in the intersection with Hai-an Road. As the Narcissus Palace is the most important temple in the five port areas, the original Narcissus Palace market is planned to move to the underground to open the temple square and connect with Hai-an Road Boulevard to re-integrate the historical texture of Tainan.
