碩士 / 國立中央大學 / 高階主管企管碩士班 / 107 / This study examines the association between corporate governance evaluation and firm performance for listed and OTC (over-the-counter) firms of shipping industry in Taiwan over the period of 2016-2017.The results show that firms ranked top 20% in the corporate governance evaluation had higher profitability and better debt-paying ability than other companies. In addition, the ratings of corporate governance evaluation are positively related to the function of board of directors. Moreover, it is found that most of the firms ranked top 20% in the corporate governance evaluation in 2016 were still in the top 20% in 2017. The corporate governance evaluation, however, showed no relationship with dividend policy. Finally, this study provides some suggestions to policy-makers and practitioners for the enhancement of corporate governance theory and practice.
