Age and growth of Gymnothorax minor in the waters off southwestern Taiwan / 台灣西南海域小裸胸鯙(Gymnothorax minor) 之年齡與成長研究

碩士 / 國立高雄科技大學 / 漁業生產與管理系 / 107 / This study used otolith to explore the age and growth of Gymnothorax minor in the waters off southwestern Taiwan. The sampling time was from November 2017 to October 2018. It was purchased from the owner of the trawler fishing boat in the Ketzliau fishing port. A total of 621 samples of fish were collected, including 336 females and 285 males. The range of body length is from 26.6 to 58.3 cm TL.The regression relationship between total length (TL) and eviscerated weight (EW) of male and female fish was significantly different after being analyzed by likelihood ratio test (P<0.05), so the data were separated and the relationship between body length and body weight was female fish: TW = 0.000622 TL 3.046 (R2 = 0.8089, n = 336), male fish: TW = 0.001967 TL 2.781 (R2 = 0.8814, n = 285). In order to understand whether the otolith of Gymnothorax minor can be used as a good age character, the otolith length (OTL) and total length (TL), the number of ring and totallength are regressed separately. The relationship shows a good correlation between otolith length and total length and between the number of ring and total length, so otolith can indeed be a good and effective age character for Gymnothorax minor.According to the edge analysis method and the edge growth rate analysis, the ring formation cycle of the Gymnothorax minor otolith is one ring in a year, and the formation period is from September to February next year and the peak period is from December to February next year. The Ford-Walford plot method and nonlinear regression method were used to obtain the Von Bertalanffy, Gompertz and Robertson growth equations for male and female fish. After comparing and analyzing thes eguations, the Von Bertalanffy growth equation obtained by nonlinear regression method is the best, and the growth equations are Female: Lt= 52.838(1-e-0.482 (t+1.118)) , Male: Lt=54.341(1-e- 0.549(t+0.794)). The results of the likelihood ratio test showed that there was a significant difference in the growth of male and female fish.
