碩士 / 國立澎湖科技大學 / 行銷與物流管理系服務業經營管理碩士在職專班 / 107 / With the rapid increase in water demand in the world, countries have begun to look for new sources of water. Water distribution has become a global issue in recent years, and it is imperative to improve the efficiency of water use. Therefore, the development of desalination has become a global trend. Desalination is one of the ways to solve the problem of water shortage. According to the International Desalination Association (IDA), the daily production of freshwater has been growing since 1990. Countries have actively develop desalination as an alternative source of water. For Taiwan, water resources are extremely precious, and water shortages occur when the climate is slightly dry. As the traditional water source is getting more and more difficult to obtain, it is necessary to develop new water resources appropriately. Therefore, the management of diversified water resources has become an important issue. Under the continuous development of industry and commerce and the continuous increase of water consumption, seawater desalination is an important development trend in our country. Since 1998, the Water Resources Agency, MOEA has implemented plans to build and improve surface reservoirs in Penghu County, and introduced private enterprises to build desalination plants to meet the water needs of various areas of the main island. In recent years, desalination technology has made considerable progress, which has greatly improved the water production rate and energy conservation, and lowered constructional and operational costs. As for the materials required for desalination, they are easy to obtain. Besides, the plants’ service spans are gradually extended. Due to the expansion of the scale of seawater desalination and the increasing efficiency of energy use, the cost of desalination is getting more and more reasonable. Under the goal of diversifying water supply, seawater has inexhaustible characteristics, and its mission to produce large quantities of fresh water is gradually given. At present, more than 30 countries and enterprises around the world have created a win-win desalination success case. With the increasing water use for industrial and living purposes, desalination has its business opportunities and niches, and we expect that we can make better use of precious water resources
