A Study on Competitive Strategy of E-commerce Platform - The Cases of Shopee and PChome / 電商平台競爭策略之研究-以蝦皮與PChome為例

碩士 / 國立中山大學 / 企業管理學系研究所 / 107 / According to market research firm eMarketer, the global retail e-commerce sales will increase from 2.29 trillion US dollars in 2017 to 4.479 trillion US dollars in 2021. However, the competition of e-commerce shopping platforms is becoming more and more fierce. Many brands tend to build their own e-commerce platforms. The convenience and popularity of social media has made many consumers prefer social platforms for online transactions. The Department of Commerce, Ministry of Economic Affairs surveyed in 2012 that the considerations for Taiwanese companies in selecting the platform for the store were “shopping costs”, “cash flow services” and “degree of attracting consumers”. As the threat of new entrants gradually increases, existing competitors of e-commerce platforms also strive to increase the use of platforms by consumers and increase the frequency of their reuse rate. How to establish consumer "loyalty" has become a key issue.

Currently, the e-commerce market is still based on consumer demand, and platform vendors mostly respond to demand passively. Once a platform provider can create demand with supply, it will make it the leader in the platform. In 2015, Shopee entered Taiwan''s e-commerce market which was a threat to PChome,

The Institute for Information Industry had surveyed that the two most popular online shopping platforms used by Taiwanese, which were 45.3% for PChome 24h and 38.7% for Shopee 24h. It can be seen that the competition between PChome and Shopee is still processing. Therefore, this study hopes to explore the various business aspects of PChome and Shopee in the e-commerce market, in order to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this two company and the current business results, and then understand the strategic layout of PChome and Shopee in Taiwan''s e-commerce industry. Hoping to help Taiwan''s e-commerce industry to a better glory.
