碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋法律研究所 / 107 / This dissertation “An Examination of Legal Issues on Container Transportation and Deck Stowage” can be divided into six chapters. As the first chapter is an introduction and the last chapter is a conclusion, the main body of this dissertation from chapter two to chapter five. Chapter one includes the motivation and purpose of this research, the methodology, and the framework of this dissertation. The second chapter examines the significance and historical development of container transportation and deck stowage. Chapter three explores the relationship between container transportation and deck stowage. Chapter four discusses the legal regulations of deck stowage, including article 73 of Maritime Act, article 1(c) of the 1924 Hague Rules, article I(c) of the 1968 Hague-Visby Rules, article 9 of the 1978 Hamburg Rules and article 25 of the 2009 Rotterdam Rules. In chapter five, we explore the legal effect of optional stowage clause. Finally, chapter six draws a general conclusion.
