An Analysis of Cargo Type Selection Considerations for Panamax Bulkers / 散裝巴拿馬極限型船舶選擇貨物類型考量因素之分析

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 航運管理學系 / 107 / According to UNCTAD, World economy and seaborne trade finally recovered from depression in 2018, expanding at the fastest growth in five years, with dry bulk commodities powering nearly half of the volume increase. Cargo type selection is an critical decision issue for Panamax bulkers, which involves criteria affecting each other, and making the right decision directly affects the revenue of shipping companies. The aim of this paper is to analyze key influential factors of cargo type selection and to choose the suitable cargo type for Panamax bulkers under voyage charter by applying BOCR (benefits, opportunities, costs and risks) model. By using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method, this paper analyze the key influence factors, and then use technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method to choose the suitable cargo type selection.
1.Using AHP to analyze key influence factors, “world economy,” is valued the most, followed by “credit of the charterer,” “freight income,” “bunker consumption” and “condition and age of the ship”.
2.Using TOPSIS to choose the suitable cargo type selection, grain,” is the first priority, followed by “bauxite/alumina,” “Iron ore,” “phosphate rock” and “minor bulks”.
The results of this study can contribute to Panamax bulkers in choosing the suitable cargo type for dry bulk shipping companies.
