Gay Men's Attire in Taiwan Public Service Sector / 公部門深似海:男同志的浮與沉

碩士 / 國立臺北大學 / 社會學系 / 107 / This study aims to discover and establish the images of gay men in Taiwan public service sectors. The participants include 11 gay men who work in public service sectors and are interviewed in the study. Four research questions are pursued:(1) How do gay men's masculinity/femininity and sexual orientation influence gender display and stigma management strategies? (2) What possible influences and oppression caused by the heterosexual hegemony do gay men have? (3) What is the impact on gay men from other colleagues? (4) Is there a hierarchy of agency in public service sectors?

The findings are: (1) gay men change images and develop a set of stigma management strategies in order to cater for the public service sector. (2) The heterosexual hegemony has influences on gay men's display of chat topics, coming out, promotion and so on. (3) The influences from other colleagues in the public sectors: older men play the role of gatekeepers to conform gay men with the heterosexual hegemony. However, women have more positive attitudes toward gay men. (4) There is a hierarchy of agency in public service sectors.
