碩士 / 國立高雄大學 / 運動健康與休閒學系碩士在職專班 / 107 / Scuba diving has grown in popularity over the past two decades, however, it may have negative impacts on marine ecosystems if divers fail to practice environmentally responsible diving. On the other hand, if divers are unable to take pro-environmental actions at the household level, the marine environment will also be indirectly impacted, thereby affecting the sustainability of diving activities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between attitude towards diving behavior and the household’s pro-environmental behavior for recreational scuba divers.
In this study, data were collected through questionnaire surveys. Questionnaires were distributed to scuba divers at popular websites and hot spots. Data were collected both online and onsite. A total of 311 valid samples were collected further statistical analysis.
Major conclusions are as follows: 1. There are significant differences between recreational scuba divers with different socio-demographic backgrounds in their attitudes towards diving behavior and the household’s pro-environmental behavior and; 2. There are significant differences between recreational scuba divers with different diving characteristics in their attitudes toward diving behavior and the household’s pro-environmental behavior and; 3. There is a significant correlation between attitudes towards diving behavior and the household’s pro-environmental behavior, the more positive attitudes toward diving behavior, the more pro-environmental behavior is implemented.
Results of this study provide suggestions for government or relevant practitioners to promote environmental-friendly behaviors both at the household level and at marine setting.
