碩士 / 台北海洋科技大學 / 海洋休閒觀光系碩士班 / 107 / Taiwan is rich in water resources and has the potential to develop water-based activities. In recent years, with the attention to ocean issues and the prevalence of national leisure tourism, canoeing tourism has developed quickly. The methods of literature analysis and in-depth interviews will be used in this study to investigate the current situation, development process, and obstacles canoeing tourism development in Taiwan. The results are as follows:
I. Current situation of development:
There are many activities of canoeing tourism all over Taiwan, but most people are unfamiliar with canoeing. There are also insufficient planning and safety maintenance measures about canoe tourism.
II. Development process:
Canoeing has gradually expanded from one competitive sport to many leisure tourism activities. It also gets more and more popular and becomes an interesting, easy-to-learn and affordable water sport that bring economic benefits.
III. Obstacles:
The factors that cause obstacles are: water use and water security restrictions, lack of proper facilities, and shortage of professionals.
Finally, in order to improve canoe tourism development, this study suggests that the government can set the standards for canoe tourism industry, improve the facilities for canoe tourism and promote canoe tourism activities. Further, it is necessary to cooperate with the Chinese Taipei Canoe Association and train athletes become qualified coaches and guides to do canoe tourism business.
