Haiphong's Urban Composition and Evolution During French Colonization / 越南海防市於法屬時期的空間構成與演變

碩士 / 國立臺北科技大學 / 建築系建築與都市設計碩士班 / 107 / In 1887, the French Union Indochinoise was formally established. In 1888 France obtained the administrative rights of Hanoi and they moved the capital there. Furthermore, they started the colonization plans and development of the colony. In the beginning, the real power of the Tokin area resided in two cities: Hanoi and Haiphong. Among the many geographical advantages of Haiphong City, the Yunnan maritime port it is the most crucial one since it ensures the continuous trade and flow of products that comes from India and China. Thanks to the high commercial value of the zone, the colonial government decided to give a lot of importance to Haiphong. In order to understand the history of the city and its spatial composition along with its evolution, this study is going to talk about the development of the streets, building facades, culture mix between two countries, and the Haiphong residents habits under the French colonial period, and the most important part is the development of Haiphong city outline affected by colonial policy.
