A Study to Recognize Abnormal Conditions of A Large Number of Boats Using Radar Electromagnetic Parameters and R Language / 運用雷達電磁參數與R語言鑑別大量船舶異常動態之研究

博士 / 華梵大學 / 機電工程學系 / 108 / A large number of boats travel on the sea every day around Taiwan island. The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) which is the law executor on the sea uses coast radar to monitor the boat’s abnormal conditions. The abnormal conditions include power lost, wreck, and smuggling, etc. Objects can be found on the radar screen using the technology of electromagnetic reflection. This information can be used to judge whether boats are under the abnormal conditions or not. However, electromagnetic reflection may not provide accurate information because of the harsh weather or detecting distance.
In this thesis, we present a different strategy to improve the precision of detection for surveillance. This approach uses the radar electromagnetic parameters emitted by the boats such as RF, PRF, PRT, PD, ST, SC, DF. These parameters can be treated as the fingerprints of boats. The reason for using these parameters is that it can distinguish the position, track and identity of boats because the parameters are collected by the electromagnetic waves emitted by the boats themselves with less affection by harsh weather. We define in this thesis the most important three abnormal conditions for the boats and propose three corresponding methods to analyze the collected electromagnetic parameters. An automatic procedure of judgments is designed by using R language to indicate the abnormal boats from a large number of data.
According to the simulation results, we show that the proposed method can accurately recognize the abnormal boats automatically in a short time period even under an environment with a large number of boats. In summary, this approach ensures less affection by harsh weather, increases the detection distance and uses less human recourses.
