Orientador: Sérgio Campos / Resumo: Cada vez mais, a população mundial vem sofrendo as conseqüências das agressões efetuadas pelo homem ao meio ambiente, principalmente quanto à ocupação e uso inadequado das terras, o que ocasiona empobrecimento e depauperamento do solo, influencia a qualidade e disponibilidade de água e leva à destruição das reservas florestais. Para reverter tal quadro, é necessária a implantação de uma efetiva política conservacionista, que contemple o desenvolvimento econômico, urbano, rural e social de uma região, para que se possa preservar os recursos naturais para futuras gerações. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho teve por objetivo a determinação da carta de capacidade de uso das terras do Município de São Manuel-SP, obtida através da utilização do Sistema de Informações Geográficas - Idrisi, visando contribuir para uma melhor organização territorial e para o planejamento de uma adequada ocupação do solo. Os resultados obtidos com a metodologia utilizada permitiram mostrar que a maior parte das áreas de terras do Município de São Manuel-SP são formadas por solos pertencentes às unidades LATOSSOLOS VERMELHO-AMARELOS Distróficos (48,94%) e LATOSSOLO VERMELHOS Eutroférricos (38,16%), apresentando texturas que variam de... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo). / Abstract: The world population is suffering the consequences of the men's aggression in the environment, mainly related to the inadequate use of land that will cause, over a long period, the impoverishment and degeneration of the soil, the degradation of the quality and availability of the water and the destruction to the forests reservations To revert this fact, it is necessary to develop an effective political land-use planning to preserve the environment that will contemplate the development of the economic, urban, rural and social areas to protect the nature for future generations. The present work had a purpose to develop the land-use capability for the Municipal District of São Manuel-SP, using a Geographical Information System - Idrisi, looking for contributing to a better territorial organization and for planning the right classification of the land for the purpose of showing its suitability for specific soil uses. The results obtained with the methodology used showed that the most of the areas of the Municipal District of São Manuel-SP is organized by the following soil units LVAd (48,94%) and LVe (38,l6%); with middle/sandy to clay textures. The slope had a predominance of areas with the 0-12% class, plane to undulating relief (77,06% of the Municipal District) showing that those lands are good for crop production with minimum erosion hazard, using agricultural equipments.
