Além disso, algumas ações só são consideradas perfeitas quando as duas mãos se movem em um exato momento, o que é o caso dos movimentos da ginástica rítmica desportiva. Neste contexto, uma questão que surge, então, é se existiria uma tendência desenvolvimental em prestar atenção em uma das mãos e não na outra com o objetivo de manter as mãos temporalmente acopladas. Este estudo foi projetado com a finalidade de verificar se o direcionamento da atenção para uma ou outra mão interfere da mesma forma nos movimentos bimanuais de crianças com preferência manual direita e crianças com preferência manual esquerda e, ainda, se a atenção interfere igualmente nos movimentos bimanuais de crianças mais novas quando comparadas às mais velhas. Participaram do estudo 44 crianças, sendo 22 destras e 22 canhotas (preferência manual identificada através do inventário adaptado de Edinburgh). O desempenho de dois grupos contendo 22 crianças cada foi analisado, sendo um com crianças com idade entre 5 a 8 anos (que freqüentava o pré e o primeiro ano) e outro com crianças de 9 a 12 anos de idade (que freqüentava o terceiro e quarto ano de escolarização). A tarefa executada foi o "Reciprocal Tapping" utilizada por Fitts e realizada de forma bimanual, no padrão em fase, em dois Índices de dificuldade (ID=2 bits/s, ID=3 bits/s). As crianças executaram três blocos de sete tentativas, sendo que cada tentativa durava 15 segundos. No primeiro bloco de tentativas nenhuma instrução foi dada em relação ao local onde as crianças deveriam dirigir a atenção e seus resultados foram considerados de controle para o efeito da atenção na coordenação bimanual de crianças... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo). / A large number of manual activities require a precise coupling in the displacement of the hands as for example when playing the piano. Moreover, some motor actions are considered successful only when the two hands move together. Is there a developmental trend in paying attention to one over the other hand in order to keep the hands temporally coupled? The aim of this study was to exam the effect of attention of children performing bimanual coordination task. Specifically, this study investigates the influence of attention towards the preferred and non- preferred hands in the speed and accuracy of performance and in the temporal relationship between hands when performing a continuous bimanual task. Forty-four children participated in this study; 22 were right-handers and 22 left-handers (handedness identified through an adapted form of the Edinburgh Inventory). The performance of two groups (22 individuals each) 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 years old was analyzed. The task employed was the Fitts' reciprocal tapping task performed in the in-phase mode of bimanual coordination. In each Index of Difficulty (ID=2 bits/s, ID=3 bits/s) children performed three blocks of seven trials, lasting 15 s each. In the first block of trials, no instruction was given to where to focus attention and it was considered as control for the effect of directing attention to one over the other hand. In the second block they were told to pay attention to the targets of the preferred hand and in the third block towards the targets of the non-preferred hand. The order of the last two blocks was counterbalanced among subjects.
