Nossa tese estrutura-se na trajetória de Sérgio Buarque de Holanda como um intelectual independente, ou seja. um tipo de intelectual envolvido com as questões centrais do debate político, mas que. mesmo membro de instituições político-partidárias (PT. por exemplo). procurou sempre manter certo distanciamento crítico, por isso mesmo, não se sujeitou às regras e aos comportamentos que tais instituições exigem de seus membros. Essa independência também é verificada na sua não-afeição a qualquer tipo de engessamento metodológico, o que o afastou de qualquer modismo ou conveniência. Compreender a atividade profissional de Sérgio Buarque de Holanda dentro e fora da universidade permite levantarmos algumas questões sobre o próprio papel do intelectual na sociedade brasileira. Nesse sentido, ao resgatar a trajetória intelectual de Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, poderemos compreender e interpretar a missão, a função, a responsabilidade e o papel do intelectual numa sociedade cada vez mais consumista que está transformando a educação em mercadoria e os educadores em mão-de-obra barata e fabril. Acreditamos que a melhor forma de discutirmos as questões relacionadas ao intelectual independente que foi Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, seja perpassando, primeiramente, pela formação do intelectual: a estrutura familiar. as cidades onde morou, a formação escolar e acadêmica, a vida profissional e a rede de relações, que revelam a formação da personalidade do escritor e do historiador. Isso nos permitiu vislumbrar, embora de modo dedutivo, características insipientes no jovem intelectual que o tempo só fez lapidar e desabrochar em formas mais vivas e sólidas. We believe in the thesis that Sérgio Buarque de Holanda could be an independent intellectual, a kind of intellectual evolved with the more important questions of the political discuss, in spite of be evolved with sectarian political institutions (PT), always tried to maintain a critic separation, because this, does not accept the rules and the conduct that the Institutions want of your members. This independent way was checked in his non-affection to any kind of methodological severity, that separated him of any dressage or convenience. To understand the professional activities of Sérgio Buarque de Holanda inside and outside of the college admit us to do some questions of his own paper of intellectual in the Brazilian society. By this way, for the ransom the intellectual trajectory of Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, we can understand and elucidate the mission, the function, the responsibility and the paper of the intellectual person in a consumist society which is changing the education in product and the educators in cheap charge hand. We believe that the best form to discuss the related questions to the independent intellectual that was Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, can be to pass by, at first, his intellectual formation: the familiar environment, the cities where lived, the education, the professional life and the relationships that reveals his personality. This permits to us appreciate, although with a deductive model, insipient characteristics in the young intellectual that the time lapidated in forms more lives and solids.
