Orientador: Antonio Nivaldo Hespanhol / Banca: Marcos Aurélio Saquet / Banca: Roseli Alves dos Santos / Resumo: As profundas mudanças na configuração espacial do campo brasileiro, especialmente da porção Centro-Sul do país e em particular na microrregião de Dracena, no Oeste do Estado de São Paulo, em busca de novas alternativas de energia em substituição ao petróleo, são os focos desta dissertação. Além das mudanças espaciais, outras mudanças estão em curso, como os arranjos produtivos locais e, com eles, as alterações nas relações de produção e nas atividades econômicas. Indubitavelmente, tais mudanças provocam também mudanças sociais, econômicas e ambientais. Tivemos como objetivo, nesta dissertação, também procurar compreender como se deu o interesse do empresariado sucroalcooleiro e o processo de inserção da atividade sucroalcooleira na microrregião de Dracena, além de ressaltar a necessidade de se reivindicar uma postura mais ativa do poder público em relação ao atual cenário e no que concerne a inserção e/ou subordinação dos pequenos produtores no processo produtivo sob as relações intersetoriais entre os segmentos agrícolas e industriais, como também o objetivo de se preservar a atual estrutura agrária regional de pequenas propriedades, para que se evite o retorno da concentração da propriedade das terras. Para tanto, estudou-se a agromanufatura açucareira no Brasil, a intervenção governamental no setor, o agronegócio no território brasileiro e seus mecanismos e a pequena propriedade rural tentando tornar possível traçar um paralelo ou uma forma de convivência entre esses dois modelos. / Abstract: The deep changes in the spatial configuration of the Brazilian countryside, especially in the central-south of the country and particularly in the micro region of Dracena, in the western Sao Paulo State, in search of new energy alternative to replace oil, are the focus of this dissertation. Besides the spatial changes other changes are on their way such as local clusters, and along with them changes in the production relations and economic activities. Undoubtedly, these changes also result in social, economic and environmental changes. Our objective through this dissertation is also trying to understand how entrepreneurs' interests and the integration of sugarcane activity happened in the micro-region of Dracena, besides emphasizing the necessity to claim for a more active posture from the government on the current scenario and as regards the insertion or submission of small farmers in the production process or the relation between the agricultural and industrial segments, having also as a goal preservation of the current agricultural structure of the region for smallholdings, to avoid land ownership concentration. Therefore, we have studied the sugarcane manufacturing farmers in Brazil, the government intervention in the industry, the agribusiness in Brazil and its mechanisms and the small farms trying to draw a parallel or a form of coexistence between these two models. / Mestre
